| Twenty-five years ago, our nation experienced a day that forever changed us.
On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 lives were lost in acts of terrorism that struck New York City, the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
Among them were firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS providers, military personnel, and ordinary people simply going about their day. And in the midst of unimaginable tragedy, we witnessed extraordinary courage as first responders and everyday citizens ran toward danger, helped strangers, and put the lives of others before their own.
For those of us in the fire and EMS service, the legacy of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice that day holds a special place in our hearts. We also remember all those who responded in the days and months that followedโand those whose lives were later lost or forever changed by illnesses connected to their service at Ground Zero.
A quarter-century has passed. A generation has grown up knowing September 11 only through the stories, photographs, and memories passed down to them.
That makes our responsibility to remember even greater.
This September 11, the members of Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company pause to honor every life lost, every family forever changed, and every person who answered the call.
We remember where we were.
We remember those we lost.
We remember the courage.
We remember the unity.
